Listen to the Binckhorst!
Sound UP is an interdisciplinary and participatory research project on the role of sound art in transforming urban environments in The Hague and Kiruna (Sweden). Every Thursday night from about 19 hrs until Friday afternoon, Sound UP streams environmental sound from the Binckhorst area of The Hague, each time from a different (and secret) location.
The Binckhorst is a former industrial area in rapid transformation into a residential zone. As well as busy roads and building sites there are small green spaces, a lot of water and some surviving light industry. We are experimenting with this mode of listening / broadcasting to be able to follow the daily rhythms of the area while charting the biodiversity.
