Princess, an Interaction between Voice and Light
Yelim Ki (Master of Artistic Research, KABK) and Lawrence McGuire (Institute of Sonology, KC) work together on the film project Princess. Princess visualizes the interaction between voice and light.
The film features a monologue that is dispersed to multiple vocal tracks, which control programmed lighting props. These props respond dynamically to the voices, resonating with the film’s narrative. Trapped in a half-conscious, dream-like state, the voices in the main character's mind replay endlessly. Over time, unexpected thoughts and words begin to disrupt, unraveling his sense of control.
This project challenges the idea that sensory memories, such as nostalgia and trauma, can only be triggered under specific circumstances. Instead, it aims to transform a fictional apocalyptic landscape into a shared, perpetual dimension of the past. Light functions both as a theatrical tool and a symbolic medium.
During the session Interdisciplinary Practices in Research in the Arts, by using visual and sound material, they will discuss about the collaborative creative process they developed in this project.
