Pepe Garcia

Pepe García is a Mexican-Dutch percussionist, teacher, and sound/artistic researcher. His work focuses on treating materials and everyday objects as instruments, questioning the boundaries between what is considered an instrument, sound, or noise. An urgency for finding sustainable approaches within the performative arts is deeply reflected in his practice.

This passion is connected to his childhood experiences in his family’s recycling business in Mexico, where he first encountered sound through discarded materials. He has worked closely with composers and theater directors, often composing his own music for dance and movement-based projects.
In addition, Pepe teaches classical percussion at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and coaches the Contemporary Ensemble Academy there. He has also completed curatorial practices courses at ArtEZ, enriching his ability to program and understand diverse artistic perspectives. A co-founder of the Sonoro Foundation and a trainer with Musicians Without Borders, Pepe is an active performer and curator who continuously explores new ways of integrating found sounds and sustainable practices into his artistic and educational work.
