Joost Geevers
Joost Geevers is a conductor, trombonist, actor in musical theatre, teacher, and philosopher.
As a guest conductor, he has worked with leading ensembles such as the Residentie Orkest The Hague, the National Ballet Orchestra, the South Netherlands Philharmonic, the North Netherlands Orchestra, and the Metropole Orchestra, among others.
He has been an active advocate for new music and has collaborated with the Asko|Schoenberg Ensemble, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, Ensemble Klang, Orkest de Ereprijs, HIIIT, the Ives Ensemble, and the Aarhus Sinfonietta.
Equally at home in light music, Joost has conducted concerts and recorded albums with artists such as Di-rect, Fay Claassen, Sven Figee, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Anneke van Giersbergen, Fresku, and De Kast.
He is also co-founder and performer with the contemporary music theatre collective Neo-Fanfare 9×13, and has appeared as a musician-actor in productions by the Dutch National Opera and NITE.
In addition to his musical work, Joost studied philosophy at the University of Antwerp and frequently writes and lectures on the intersections of art and philosophy. He is the author of two books on performance practice: In Conversation with the Old Masters (2015) and Bach is Not a Genius (2025).
