Jasper Coppes

Jasper Coppes’ practice takes shape across a variety of media, including film, writing, sculpture, architecture and sound. His work questions the dominant stories we tell about landscapes and the processes that take place within them. Long-term dialogues with specific sites, people and non-human entities form the basis of his practice.

Jasper’s film Aasivissuit (2020), made in collaboration with experts from Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland), presents indigenous perspectives on environmental changes. His film KALI WAAL (2024) retells the story of an ecological controversy in the Netherlands. The latter was produced during his participation in the KABK Design Lectorate Research Group under the project title Shallow Lake, becoming both the subject and the medium through which he explored cinematic responses to contamination and toxicity. In addition to teaching at KABK, Jasper also teaches in the TXT (textile) department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam.
