Reading Group - Rosa Hartmuts' Concept of Resonance and Aesthetic Experience

Th 11 May 2023 13:00 – 15:00, Meeting Reading Group - Lipsius Building, Room 2.17

Please join the LUCAS research group The Role of Experience in Arts of Criticism, Rhetoric, and Aesthetics, dedicated to the examination of affective, embodied-enactive, and new materialist approaches to the arts, for its monthly reading group.

It's open to anyone interested in experiential interactions between art, its makers, and their audiences.

This fifth session will take place on Thursday, May 11, from 13.00 – 15.00 hrs, Room Lipsius 2.17 at Leiden University. The meeting will revolve around the work of sociologist and political scientist Hartmut Rosa, whose theorization of resonance as an experiential mode of relating to the world seeks to offer an alternative to the social dynamic of acceleration in which we currently find ourselves, and which has caused us to become alienated from the world as well as ourselves.

Our LUCAS colleague Mathijs Peters, who recently wrote and published a study on Rosa’s work together with his partner Bareez Majid, has kindly agreed to introduce Rosa’s thought and discuss the following three texts with us, all three of which are available online (the second and third only via your ULCN account):

We look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible to this session. Please spread the word to anyone who might be interested.
