Screening of 'All-heal Fennel⎽__⎽--⎻⎺⎺⎻take_rest.GIF' & presentation by Jort van der Laan
The new Lectorate FILM has organised a film screening and accompanying text work by PhDArts candidate Jort van der Laan. Following the screenings, he will give a presentation about his research process and projects.
For a more dreamlike relation to narrative, take_rest.GIF (2023) is a valerian-infused text work after filmmaker, artist and activist Derek Jarman's (1942 – 1994) turbulent & mesmerising body of work. All-heal Fennel (2017, 7:29 min) is a short film about a road trip to Prospect Cottage, Jarman’s former home and magical garden located under the Dungeness nuclear power station. The film shows a politically layered landscape of reinforced border checks, Guardian reader tourism and traces of Blue – his haunting reflection on dying and living with HIV/AIDS.
Screened & spoken out loud for the occasion, this presentation will touch upon lens-based research to see more and projects spilling over into other projects.
