'New Horizons Initiative' AI project

'New Horizons Initiative' AI project with Dirk-Jan Visser & Gus Drake - Environmental Humanities Leiden University

Mo 25 Nov 2024 15:00 – 17:00, Lecture - Herta Mohr Building, Leiden

Join artists Dirk-Jan Visser (KABK) and Gus Drake (KABK) during the lecture on the AI project 'New Horizon Initiative', which analyzes and visualizes the different interests of non-human life in a landscape to advocate for inclusive decision-making.

The event is organised by the Environmental Humanities group of LUCAS.

Inspired by the Rights of the Nature movement, their ‘New Horizon Initiative’ is intended to empower non-human life and give them a voice in the formulation of political and governmental participation and thus contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Gus Drake is an Amsterdam and Groningen based photographer who graduated in 2022 from the KABK. In my artistic practice he focuses on the interrelationship of human and non-human life in the environment. Using photography as a tool to connect and enter into conversation. His work engages in cultural and ecological discourse addressing the heritages of the landscape.

Dirk-Jan Visser is a documentary photographer, senior lecturer at the KABK and is a certified board member, currently holding a position in the supervisory board of World Press Photo Foundation. In his artistic practice he's interested in the ecological question. Through photography, stakeholder management and public affairs he wants to reach a large audience to facilitate dialogue on the relation and responsibilities humanity has towards non-human life.
