Sara Rajaei is an Iranian-Dutch video artist and filmmaker based in the Netherlands. Her work delves into the notion of time, examining the absence of imagery and the psychology of memory. We have invited filmmaker and author Peter Delpeut to join Sara in conversation about the use of archival footage and other aspects of her highly poetic and reflective work.
We will screen a selection of Sara’s short films spanning over twenty years, including her recent film that won the Golden Calf at the Netherlands Film Festival and European Short Film Prix Vimeo 2026 at the European Film Awards…
City of Poets (2024), 21 mins
Through a collage of personal archive footage and photographs, the history emerges of a semi-utopian, metaphorical city, where all the streets are named after poets. When war begins, new neighbourhoods are built to accommodate the refugees. Abrupt and sweeping upheavals lead to confusion among the city's residents. Soon they find themselves lost amid the memories of the forgotten poets.
