The past decade they created three participatory film projects in collaboration with communities. Episode of the Sea (2014) was co-created with the fishing community of Urk, Stones Have Laws (2018) with Maroons in Suriname, and Monikondee (expected release 2025) with Indigenous and Maroon communities at the border of French-Guyana and Suriname. Their works are in the collection of MoMA New York, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Kunsthaus Zürich, a.o. Their films screened at numerous international filmfestivals, including TIFF, IDFA, MoMA's Documentary Forthnight, CPH:DOX, ICA's Frames of Representation. Van Brummelen and De Haan are founders of vriza, a production house of artist films.
