AEC European Platform for Artistic Research in Music (EPARM) 2027

Crossing Thresholds: Transitions and Transformation in and Through Artistic Research

Artistic practice lies at the heart of artistic research. It is the source of emerging research questions and central to the process through which artistic research leads to new understanding, change, and creative potential. While distinctive characteristics of artistic research have often been discussed in terms of methods, dissemination formats, and disciplinary definitions, less attention has been paid to the thresholds researching musicians cross when generating meaningful artistic research from artistic practice. These thresholds may arise when tacit and embodied artistic knowledge is exposed to inquisitive scrutiny, when creative research methods challenge familiar artistic or academic processes, or when artistic autonomy gives way to interdependence in research collaboration. Thresholds may also arise in transcultural exchange, environmentally conscious engagement, or technological mediation in artistic research, as well as in creating the knowledge infrastructure needed to make research results transparent and accessible.

Crossing these thresholds requires trust and courage to fail, but above all, it holds the promise of a transformation of both artistic practice and the larger research field.

The AEC European Platform for Artistic Research in Music (EPARM) 2027 will take place at Anton Bruckner University on 22 – 24 April 2027. More information, programme and registration form will be published at https://aec-music.eu/event/european-platform-for-artistic-research-in-music-eparm-2027/
